The heart of New Mexico - Turquoise Trail
If you want to enjoy New Mexico's most picturesque views, drive the Turquoise Trail, the route connecting Santa Fe to Albuquerque. The highway begins in Tijeras, a village in central New Mexico known for the so-called "musical road" that is a part of famous US 66. Take it to enjoy the sounds of "America the Beautiful" produced by the tires of your vehicle when driving at 45 mph. While journeying down the Turquoise Trail, you will pass through small towns and villages like Cedar Crest, Cerrillos, Edgewood, and Sandia Park that have been treasuring up the history of the United States since the days of Spanish explorers. The Trail ends in the San Marcos/Lone Butte Area famous for its rock formations named "Garden of the Gods".

Designed in 2000, the road has become an important trade route in New Mexico. The 54-miles-long highway will take you to Sandia Crest, the highest point of the Sandia Mountains where you can revel in most breathtaking sunsets you have ever seen!
On your way to Albuquerque, you will be able to explore small towns and sleepy villages that were once prosperous and busy. You will pass through Golden that was the first gold rush west of the Mississippi River but has long become a ghost city with only 37 residents (as for 2010). Make a stop in Madrid that will impress any traveler with its cozy cafes and shops.
Wise people say that a picture is worth a thousand words! So, why delay? Explore New Mexico while driving the Turquoise Trail; the route will offer you the most gorgeous and fascinating views of the state!
